Outhouse Books
Here are the outhouse books I own, with my comments on them.
I no longer am part of Amazon's program to promote their site and
business, due to their
backing of pedophiles through books and forums they sponsor. I still highly recommend these books,
which can be purchased through book stores and hobby shops.

The Specialist
by Charles (Chic) Sale, 1929. It's quite easy to find, and really hysterical!
Gems of American Architecture
by William Royal Greer, 1935. This booklet was an advertising giveaway, and
it's a hoot. Also easy to find.
Outhouses
by Londie G Padelsky, 1998. I have her matching book of postcards you can
tear out and mail, and the photography is really great.
Nature Calls - the History, Lore, and Charm of Outhouses
by Dottie Booth, 1998. A must have - enteraining to read and beautifully
photographed. There is also a matching jigsaw puzzle out there.
Outhouse Humor
by Billy Edd Wheeler, 1988. He wrote the song "Ode to the little brown shack
out back". I've never heard it, but I want to! Short and amusing read.
My Folks - Back To The Basics
By Michele Webb, 1994. This is a collection of letters from people telling
their memories. Some letters had me in tears - it's one you can't help but
read out loud to everyone. Make sure you read this with people who understand
your interests in peculiar subjects...
Going Abroad
by Eva Newman, 1997. Although this isn't technically an outhouse book,
it's about how to use bathrooms in other countries. No challenge, you say?
You've never traveled outside of the USA!!! I wish I had this book before I
got stationed in Korea!!!
Temples of Convenience and Chambers of Delight
by Lucinda Lambton, 1995. This book is positively opulant! I've never seen such
gorgeous toilets in my life. It would be a shame to use them. Some outhouses,
some chamber pots, some outhouses.
The Vanishing American Outhouse
by Ronald S. Barlow, 1992. This is the absolute authoritative must-have for the
outhouse afficianado. It's now back in print after a tragic pause.
Outhouses of the East
by Sherman Hines and Ray Guy, 1978. Pretty photos - no real "meat and
potatoes", but nice photos.
<The Outhouse Revisited
by Sherman Hines and Don Harron, 1996. Again, nice photos, cute captions.
Johns - The Outhouse Beautiful
by Frank O'Beirne, 1952. Classic 1950's graphic illustrations on futuristic and
fantasy outhouses. This is a riot! I love this book!
The Outhouse Book
by Wayne Allred and David Mechan, 1997. Great humorous stories and cartoon.
An Outhouse By Any Other Name
by Thomas G. Harding, 1999. Super photos with great quotes.
Anxieties In The Outhouse
by R. Eugene Wallace, 2002. The Diarya of an Appalachian Man.
