I only show outhouses I've photographed myself, or friends have
photographed for me, as there are plenty of excellent web pages and books out
there that don't need me to copy their jpg's!

My husband and I happened to be in Frankenmuth, Michigan one weekend during a
snow sculpture competition, and were lucky enough to have the camera with
us! I sure hope this one brought in first prize! I don't remember the year
(94, 95?), and have no details on this.

We took an apartment for a few months during the winter in 98/99 close to
Greg's work, as it was a 90 mile commute one way. The apartments were in an
old converted barn in rural PA. This little building was right next to the
mail boxes, and not locked. I just KNEW it had to be an outhouse - why would
you bother with slate roofing shingles and vented windows on a storage shed?

Sure enough - this is the beauty on the inside. The seats are now covered
with nailed down plywood, and the detail doesn't show in my photos, but the
paneling is gorgeous bead-board. I've never seen a "kiddie seat" built in
like this one before!
This does make me ponder though - the barn and the farm house were huge -
there must of been a giant family, farm hands, etc. I hope there was more
than one of these on the property back then! And I bet those two windows,
right across from each other, were COLD in the winter... I am truly grateful
I collect outhouses and don't NEED outhouses!

Here's 2 lovely views of an outhouse my friend Judy in Virginia sent me.
A touch drafty, but I'm sure you have your privacy!
